Mr. Smith joined SemBioSys' Board of Directors in May 2009. Mr. Smith has been involved in the start up or initial phases of more than 30 companies in a variety of industries, working with senior executives and Boards. He has been a director of numerous public and significant private business organizations. He has practiced law for more than 30 years, including more than 20 years in the Calgary Business Law Group of McCarthy Tetrault LLP. Mr. Smith served as acting Chief Executive Officer of the Alberta Securities Commission and chaired the Alberta Securities Commission, Securities Advisory Committee from its inception for 10 years. In January 2000, he was appointed as Queen's Counsel in recognition of his community activities. Mr. Smith received his BA in 1973 and his LLB in 1976, both from the University of Alberta, and was called to the Alberta bar in 1977.
